Unknown of his current location, Link slumbers somewhere inside a building.  Unable to awaken, he hears a strange voice speaking to him.  He has heard this voice speak to him before, out in the vast oceans of the Great Bay.

???: Do you fear power?

Link: Who... who are you?

???: I need to know.  Do you fear power?

Link: Why do you want to know?

???: (voice fading) Do you.... fear.... power....?

Link: Just who are you....? (opens his eyes) -GAH?!

Link looks upward to see a golden face stare at him.  He panics and swats the face away from him, revealing itself to be a Golden Skulltula.  Link jumps up from the bed he rests in, reaches for his equipment, pulls out his bow, and takes aim for the Golden Skulltula.

Ol' Bailey: Ey! (stands in front of Link) Don't you be tryin' to kill Goldie here.  What did Goldie ever do to ye, bro?

Link: .... Sorry, Bailey. (puts away his Bow) I forget that Skulltula was your pet.

Ol' Bailey: Aw, no sweat, bro.  Goldie was just nervous about ye. (The Golden Skulltula scurries away) He be a docile creature as long as I wear this gold pendent on me person.

Faust: Link, you're away. (appears behind Link from the shadows) I was beginning to worry that I'd have to go without you.

Link: Sorry, some voice was talking to me. .... It's nothing, forget about it.  We have business to take care of.

Faust: Right.  We have to locate the fox Master Kurai spoke of in order to find the Palace of Illusions.

Ol' Bailey: Speakin' of foxes, how was ye little date with that lass in the bar?  She's a real looker, bro.  Trust Ol' Bailey on this one.

Link: Uh? (blushes for a moment) It wasn't like that.  Well... not exactly.  It's too complicated to explain.

Faust: Bailey, the fox we're looking for is a real fox, not a woman.

Ol' Bailey: Oh, Ol' Bailey understands.  So, why find a fox, Floaty Friend?

Faust: Stop calling me that!  This fox is the only one that can lead us to the other half of Twinmold's Idol.

Link: Here. (shows Twinmold's Idol) There is a blue one just like this, and we need to find it.

Ol' Bailey: Hmmm... blue one, ey?  Hmmm... Maybe... Yeah, Ol' Bailey's got something to help ye.  It's a good thing I collect masks.  (digs through a trunk of his) Now where did Ol' Bailey hide this?

Link: Hide what?

Ol' Bailey: You see, Bro, Ol' Bailey spotted me-self a fox when yours truly was a wee lad.  AHAH! (pulls out a mask) I wore this when I saw the creature.

Faust: That's a Keaton Mask, isn't it?  I think you may be on to something.

Link: Do you remember where you saw this fox?

Ol' Bailey: Uh.... Oh, yeah!  Romani Ranch.  C'mon, Ol' Bailey will lead you there.

Link: Sooner we find them, the sooner we collect the last idol.  Let's go, Faust.

Faust: Alright. (turns into a fairy and follows Link and Ol' Bailey out of his house) .... Bailey, has the sun set yet?

Ol' Bailey: Huh? (looks at the setting sun) Guess not.

Faust: (aside) That's strange, and today of all days....

Ol' Bailey leads Link and Faust out of New Clock Town and towards the Romani Ranch.  Unknown to them, someone beings following them.

Skona: An idol, you say?  Well, well, Skona, you're about to reach your biggest score yet.

Moments later, at the Romani Ranch, Link, Faust, and Ol' Bailey begin searching through the tall grass growing around in the ranch.  The farm hands return the cattle into the many barns in the ranch and return to their quarters for the night.  Ol' Bailey wears the Keaton Mask as he searches.

Link: Hmmm... good, everyone's calling it a night.  Faust, I think it's safe to return to normal.

Faust: Alright. (returns to his Garo form) Are you sure no one will find us?

Ol' Bailey: No, sweat, Floaty Friend.  Jossie don't mind me hanging around.  She runs the ranch, like her momma before her and her momma before, and so on, ye know.  As long as I'm here, she won't bother ye.

Faust: I hope so-

???: YOU!  STAY RIGHT THERE!

Faust: Guh?! (turns around) Oh, no!

Ol' Bailey: (He and Link turn around) Jossie, Ol' Bailey can explain.

Jossie: Not now, Bailey. (walks up to Faust) I know who you are.

Faust: ....

Jossie: You just head back to the Gorman Horse Ranch and tell those bumbling broncos that I ain't fallin' for those stupid ghost get-ups y'all are trying to pull.  I know y'all are trying to steal the secret to the Chateau Romani, but ya ain't gettin' it.

Faust: .... Excuse me?

Jossie: I gotta say, this is, by far, y'all's best disguise.  Howya floatin' like that?

Link: Um, ma'am, if you don't mind, we're trying to locate a fox.  It's important we find one soon.

Jossie: Oh, really? (stares at Link, then at Ol' Bailey) ... Well, if Bailey's here helping you, I'll give y'all the benefit of the doubt, but no tricks.  You hear me?

Link: I understand.

Jossie: Good.  Now don't you boys stay up too late.  (walking away) Be sure to tell your pa we appreciate his business.

Ol' Bailey: Uh... sure, Jossie. (scratches the back of his head) Cap'n Vagio sure loves that Chateau Romani.  Heh, heh, heh....  Ol' Bailey'll remind him to pay his tab.

Faust: That... was too close.

Link: Agreed.  Bailey, are we close to finding this fox?

Ol' Bailey: No sweat, Bro.  Ol' Bailey find him soon.  Just you wait.

As the three continue searching, the grass behind them begins to shake around.  The grass then flies up into the air, and a three-tailed fox stands where the grass lies.  The fox slowly walks up to them.

???: (chuckles) You'll never be able to fool me.

Link: Huh? (all three turn around) ... I think we found our fox.

Keaton: (chuckles) We Keaton can tell each other apart from the shine of our tails.  That mask didn't fool me before, and it won't fool me now, Bailey.

Ol' Bailey: Oy, ye remember Ol' Bailey?

Keaton: Of course.  I gather alot of information about Newmina. (looks at Link) Hmmm.... you there, Link... (under his breath) Do Joy and Fear reflect your soul?

Link: Uh?  Joy and Fear?  What do you mean?

Keaton: Oh?  ...Nothing, I was muttering to myself.  Anyway, I know why you're here.  You wish to complete the tale and reach the Palace of Illusions.

Link: That's right. (holds up Twinmold's Idol) The idol needs to be complete so that I can break a curse it placed on a dear friend of mine.

Keaton: Ah, yes, I see... this is a saddened creature who only longs to be with its companion... or replace it with any substitute it can find.  What a pity.

Link: (aside) Midna.... (to the Keaton) How do get to the Palace of Illusions?

Keaton: Oh, no, no.  I won't tell you until you answered my questions.  Only then will I tell you the secret of this idol and the palace.

Link: I guess I don't have a choice.

Keaton: Very good.  Before we begin, you alone, Link, must answer these questions, for these questions will reflect your experience in Newmina, to see what you remember.

Link: I'm ready.

Keaton: Question One; You arrive in Newmina after traveling through a thick fog in the woods.  Once in New Clock Town, you made a stop into a bar to rest yourself.  But wait, what was the name of that bar?  Was it the Indigo-Go's Milk Bar, the Beaver Bros Milk Bar, or the Clock Town Milk Bar?

Link: Umm....

Ol' Bailey: Oh, C'mon, Bro, dat's an easy one.

Link: .... The Beaver Bros Milk Bar.

Keaton: Correct!  Question Two; Upon making your way into the Woodfall Temple, you met King Oogo, the leader of the Deku Monkey tribe.  He helps you along your quest to ruins of the Deku Palace Ruins while dealing with his pet peeve.  Did he hate when you interupted him, when you stepped on his foot, or when you asked him the same question again and again?

Link: King Oogo, let me think...

King Oogo: (flashback) LET OOGO FI-I-INI-I-ISH!

Link: That's right, he hated being interupted.

Keaton: Correct! Question Three: Inside the Citadel of Champions, you went into battle against Champion City's greatest warrior, Attlatl.  His Morning Star shattered the defenses of his foe.  Did he win that weapon after defeating a Goron, a Thief, or a Knight?

Link: I remember Attlatl....

Sara: (flashback) He even has a weapon he won defeating a knight that some believe can shatter defenses!

Link: Oh, I remember now!  We recieved the Morning Star after defeating a knignt.

Keaton: Correct! Question Four: You ventured into the vast ocean with the Pirate Kingpin, Captain Rhett Vagio, in search of the Great Bay Temple.  He tells you of the temple's fate, as well as the monster, Gyorg, and the seven baby Zoras born to help the Zora hero defeat him long ago.  When Gyrog returned, how many Zoras survived his attack?  Were there five Zoras left, two Zoras left, or only one Zora left?

Link: The Zoras? Hmmm.... Think, Link, think...

Vagio: (flashback) ...Gyorg returned to kill off those seven Zoras.  No one knows why.  Only one Zora survived...

Link: Oh, yes.... only one survived.

Keaton: Correct!  Question Five: While exploring the Stone Tower Temple, you met four Poe Sisters.  The eldest, Meg, introduced you to her three sisters.  Which is not a name of one of these sisters?  Is it Beth, is it Clair, or is it Amy?

Link: Poe Sisters?  I don't... wait...

Meg: (flashback) My name is Meg.  These are my sisters, Amy... Beth...

Link: Hold on....

Meg: ... and Joelle.

Link: That's it!  Clair is not one of their sisters.

Keaton: Correct! (chuckles) You're good at this.

Faust: Well done, Link.  I think you've got this.

Keaton: All I ask is one more thing; What.... is the only thing that can defeat Majora's Mask?

Faust: (gasps) Are you saying there's only one thing that can stop the mask?

Ol' Bailey: Well, don't just stand there, bro, give 'em the answer.

Link: Um.... I.... I don't know...

Happy: (flashback) Destiny says both the hero and the messanger will fail to quell the mask's desires... but only true evil will succeed.

Link: All I was told is that only true evil will succeed.  I have no idea what that means.

Keaton: .....

Link: .... That's all I can tell you.

Keaton: (chuckles) I don't know either.  I was only curious if you did.

Link: Huh?!

Keaton: Why the surprised look?  You are very knowledgable.  Now I shall tell you how to reach the palace. (clears his voice) Faust, as you may remember, your clan seized the Ikana Castle in order acheive superiority over the Ikana Kingdom.

Faust: Yes.

Keaton: When Master Kurai found Twinmold's idol in the Stone Tower, a divine creature came to him and told him of what will be in the future, and in order to try and protect Newmina, the idol was split, one remained in the Stone Tower, the other in a dungeon of this creature's design, the Palace of Illusions.

Link: Okay, so how do we get there?

Keaton: You should know, only a divine creature can lead the way.  That divine creature, the one who hid the idol in the palace he created..... is an owl.

Link: An owl?  We have to find an owl now?

Ol' Bailey: Oh, you gotta be kiddin' me.  Ol' Bailey don't have no owl mask.

Keaton: If left unchanged, anyone bit by that saddened idol will transform into one permenantly.  So, you'd better find an owl.... or at least... something that looks like an owl.  (chuckles and disappears) Fare well.

Faust: Something that looks like an owl. .... Any ideas?

Ol' Bailey: Ye know.... I think there be something like that.... yeah, next to the Ol' Clock Tower.  Follow me, Bro.

Link: You do?  Lead the way.

Ol' Bailey leads Link and Faust back towards Old Clock Town and toward the Clock Tower.  Faust assumes his fairy from to avoid attention from others.

Ol' Bailey: Here it be, Bro, this statue looks just like- what? NO!

Link: What's wrong? (spots the broken statue) Is this the spot where you were taking us?  I remember seeing it broken when I came here.

Ol' Bailey: How could this have happened?  Ol' Bailey was sure it was fine, and... Oh, wait... Now Ol' Bailey remembers.

Flashback to a week earlier.  Ol' Bailey chases Kassandora around Old Clock Town.  Kassandora carries Ol' Bailey's Mask of Truth in her hands.  He jumps for her, but Kassandora jumps away, and Ol' Bailey crashes into the Owl Statue, thereby crumbling it.

Kassandora: When are you going to learn?  You'll never catch me, you've never have, and you never will. (runs off)

Ol' Bailey: GRRRR!  YE COME BACK HERE AND SAY DAT TO ME FACE, LASSIE! (gives chase again) OL' BAILEY'S GONNA SPANK YE GOOD FOR THAT!

Faust: (Flashback ends)  You realize you're not the sharpest hook on the fishing line, right?

Ol' Bailey: Sorry, Bro, looks like you're on your own.

Link: It's okay.  We'll find another way. (Skona runs around the corner and crashes into Link) Oof!

Skona: Oh, terribly sorry about that. (helps Link up) You're not hurt, are you?

Ol' Bailey: Oy, ye get outta here, Skona!  You ain't helpin' nobody but ye-self.  Go on, get!

Skona: Fine, be that way. I have other things to do.

Link: Skona?

Shop Owner: (flashback) AND DON'T COME BACK WITH ANY MORE STOLEN MERCHANDISE, SKONA!

Link: Skona, wait, maybe you can help me.

Skona: Finally, someone that trusts me.  How can I be of service?

Link: I'm looking for another statue much like this one. (searchs for the idol) You see, we're looking for a red one just like the one I have.  Maybe you've heard of it.

Skona: Red?  That's not right.  You're looking for the blue one.

Link: How do you know which one I'm looking for?

Skona: Well, I .... (runs away) BYE!

Link: Faust, follow him!  He stole the idol from me.

Faust: What?!  I'm on it.

Link and Faust give chase to Skona, leaving Ol' Bailey in the their dust.  Link calls for Epona, mounts onto her, and continues the chase.  Skona, running east, whistles by a tree, awakening Takkuri in the tree.  Takkuri flies down and attempts to attack Link and Faust.  Skona runs off towards the canyon.

Link: It's that thieving bird again.

Faust: Does Takkuri answer to Skona?  Link, get rid of him so we can catch Skona.

Link: Right. (dodges one of Takkuri's attacks) Whoa.  Hey, do you have any bombs left?

Faust: I do, but why?

Link: Let me show you something I learned from a certain bomb-maker back home.

Faust hands Link a few bombs as Takkuri dives down for another attack.  Link ties one of the bombs to an arrow, takes aim with that arrow at Takkuri, and fires it.  The Bomb Arrow hits Takkuri dead center, blowing up on impact, and scaring Takkuri away.

Faust: Nice job.  I bet Takkuri wasn't expecting that.

Link: C'mon, we still have to find Skona.

Faust: I saw him running towards the canyon.  I know it like my own blades.  We will find him.

Link, Epona, and Faust enter the canyon and search as fast as they can.  Upon reaching the river, the spot Skona on the ground, kneeling in sorrow.  The idol rests beside him.

Skona: Help me.... please help me... that thing.... (looks up) LOOK WHAT IT DID TO ME!

Link: Ahh!  The idol bit you, didn't it?

Skona: What's happening to me?! (pincers grow from his mouth, and a third grows on his head) Take it!  Just keep that thing away from me! (runs off into a cave) I'm SORRY....!

Link: Twinmold claims another victem. (picks up the idol) Now what do we do?  (looks around) Wait, I think I know of another owl statue nearby.

Faust: What?  Where?

Link uses the Hookshot to climb up the canyon wall back to the Ikana Kingdom in ruins.  He approaches the Owl Statue standing there.

Faust: Incredible.  I must have passed this statue thousands of times, but never have I put any thoughts into it.  So, how do we proceed?

Link: Hmmm... (strikes the statue with the Gilded Sword) Teya!

Faust: Link!

Suddenly, Link and Faust find themselves in front of the Stone Tower Temple enterance.  A red scarab sculpture just below the door of the temple shines in front of them.  There is no way to enter the temple from where they stand.

Link: That sculpture again.  Why is it glowing? (a small owl holding a green cane appears) Huh?

Owl: I am your guide to the palace you wish to enter.  Shoot the light into the blood-stained scarab, and into illusions you shall venture. (disappears)

Faust: I've heard rumors of something happening to the Stone Tower like this, but I never thought it was true.

Link: Shoot the light... (draws his bow.  The arrow begins to glow) Whoa. (loosens the tention on his bow.  The arrow stops glowing) I hope this works.

Link pulls back the arrow on his bow, causing the arrow to glow again.  He then fires the glowing arrow into the scarab sculpture.  Suddenly, Link feels the entire world shifting, as the sky becomes the earth, and the earth becomes the sky.  This causes Link and Faust to fall into the sky.  A moment later, they see themselves standing upside-down in mid-air, high above Newmina.  In front of them, a beautiful palace stands right-side up to them.

Faust: This has to be it, the Palace of Illusions. (looks up towards the ground) We must be in an alternate plane of existence.

Link: Well, where ever we are, we have a mission to carry out.  Let's get in there and stop Twinmold.

With a step of faith, Link and Faust venture into the Palace of Illusions.  Somewhere in this fortress, the other half of Twinmold may lurk, waiting for them to arrive.  Their only concern is whether or not Kassandora has found her way in there before they did.

I thought for a second that Link would have to transform into a wolf again. That would be cool
